The Golden Tarot of the Renaissance – Estensi Tarot by Lo Scarabeo, Jo Dworkin and Giordano Berti. A card-by-card feature by Tarot Zamm.
The antique deck of Charles VI, commonly known as the Estensi (Este Duchy) Tarot, is proposed here in its entirety, thanks to careful, in-depth historical and artistic research.
A very valuable work featuring embossed water-coloured cards enriched with golden laminate. Once known as the Charles VI or Gringonneur Tarot, this historic masterpiece has been restored, completed, and renamed to reflect its true history.
This late 15th-century deck was made in Ferrara for the Estes family. The Minor Arcana, added by Dworkin, was inspired by frescos in Schifanoia Palazzo, owned by the Estes family. These images are alive with movement and wit and are highlighted with gold foil.

5.0 out of 5 stars – A magnificent Tarot
I fell in love with this deck the moment I saw it. Which it was a fellow tarot reader who showed me her prized possession which was this deck. It’s her only. And she has been reading for 20 plus years! Now I been reading the tarot for 20 years and been looking for my soulmate deck and here it is. Its blunt, loves to gossip but extremely accurate! It’s beautiful and confident. To me it’s an advance deck and not related to the Waite smith tarot at all! Love that! It’s based on the Charles VI or I think the Gringonneur tarot based to amuse King Charles not really to be serious but this deck is a serious deck and gives guidance and details. I think it invokes Archangel Metatron. Well for me it does.
It may not be for everyone I know the two of wands offends a lot of people due to its graphic nature but this deck tells it symbolically as we do. It’s real. I simply adore the deck. I find if you follow the little booklet and expand your intuition with the cards and build a relationship with the deck that it works great and even more great readings to follow. I hope this helps. 🙂
