Faerie Tarot by Nathalie Hertz – a card-by-card feature by Tarot Zamm.
This original deck offers fresh interpretations of traditional tarot, with vibrant art blending fantasy, whimsy, and nature. Every card comes to life with exquisite details, and charming motifs inspired by the four seasons. The Wands symbolize autumn, the Swords relate to winter, Cups symbolize springtime, and Pentacles symbolize summer. The wide borders add whimsical embellishments with stars, hearts, dragons, and flowers.

A charming deck that is also full of folklore, magical symbolism and profound meanings. Based on the Rider-Waite-Smith system, it is not as slavish clone. The artist adds her own fresh ideas which allow the Tarot reader to use her intuition and see layers of interpretation beyond the conventional meanings. The seasons are beautifully expressed: Cups for spring, Pentacles for summer, Wands for autumn, and Swords for winter. A good observer of the natural history of Northern Europe, the artist depicts foxes, birds, bears, boar, wolves, ermine, deer, swan and many birds that are easily recognizable. My favorite part of the deck are the gorgeous court cards. The pages are all elfin, but the knights, queens, and kings are straight out of Camelot or Tolkien, with fey details like wings. . I was very drawn to these dignified, heroic folk of legend. I especially liked the knights on their large draft horses just like the ones actually used by real knights of old. The deck is richly coloured and the lavender, green, orange, blue, yellow and cherry borders (which I typically do not like) are beautifully integrated and serve to draw you into the magical world of each card. The colours are often jewel-toned; this is lush, finely detailed art of a high calibre. Overall, a truly imaginative and wonderful deck. It is surprising us not more often discussed.
